Stay Salty (Day 3)

Salt Has to Be Applied
“Salt in the shaker changes nothing. It only works when it’s poured out.”
Mark 9:50 (ESV)
“Salt is good, but if the salt has lost its saltiness, how will you make it salty again? Have salt in yourselves, and be at peace with one another.”
Devotional Thought
Salt can sit on a shelf for years and never do what it was created to do. The shaker looks full. The crystals look fine. But until the salt is poured out, pressed in, and spread across something else, it has no effect.
Jesus says the same about us. We can gather in the “shaker” of the church building, sing songs, listen to sermons, and look the part. But if our faith never touches the world around us, what good is it?
Salt only works when it’s applied. And often, that means leaving the comfort of the shaker. It means being poured out into hard places. It means risking being rubbed into wounds and mess where healing is needed.
Mark 9:50 reminds us that salt has to live within us before it can work through us. You can’t apply what you don’t carry. If your faith is shallow, your influence will be weak. But when Christ fills your life, His character flows out of you into the lives of others.
If…then. If salt stays in the shaker, then decay continues unchecked. But if salt is scattered, then the world tastes the presence of Christ and experiences the peace of His kingdom.
The church was never meant to be a storage container. It’s meant to be a sending base. The world doesn’t need to see full shakers—it needs to taste real salt.

Application Questions
- Are you keeping your faith inside the shaker, or are you pouring it out where it’s needed?
- What’s one area of your life where God might be asking you to be more applied and less stored?
- How can you be intentional this week about bringing Christ’s character into your community?
Today's Challenge
Do one “salt action” today outside of church walls.
Encourage a coworker, pray with a friend, or serve someone in need. Be applied, not stored.

Today's Prayer
Lord, don’t let me settle for being salt that sits still. Shake me out. Pour me out. Use me in the places where You’ve positioned me. Help me bring peace where there’s conflict, healing where there’s hurt, and hope where there’s despair. Let my faith be applied, not hidden. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
